Community Resilience Following Critical Incidents

 Across the past 30 years, mass causality events in the US have shaped mental health knowledge regarding readiness, response and resilience. Join Dr. John Tassey in this discussion of community trauma and resilience. 


Objectives

  •  Appreciate the complexities of mass trauma and the disaster system of care.
  • Understand the importance of culture, individual, family, and social factors in survivors’ disaster reactions.
  • Identify principles of disaster mental health assessment and intervention and the current disaster mental health evidence base.


About Dr. John Tassey

Dr. John Tassey is the Psychology Program Manager for the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center and currently serves as the American Psychological Association Disaster Resource Network coordinator for Oklahoma.  Dr. Tassey was appointed chair of the APA Task Force on the Mental Health Response to the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995. He also deployed to Washington D.C. following the September 11 attacks while serving as the Red Cross National Mental Health Consultant from 1998 through 2007.
