Ethics in Addiction Treatment-Boundary Issues in Service

This workshop will work to increase the power of understanding boundaries. In this workshop we will look at the concept of boundary issues, major themes, boundaries of self-disclosure, sexual misconduct, consequences to those we serve, standard of care, and the importance of supervision. 


Objectives:

  • Explore complex boundary and dual relationships in professional services 
  • Present illustrative case examples
  • Provide an overview of relevant ethics concepts and standards • Identify practical strategies to protect people served and help prevent ethics-related litigation 


About Mark McDonald, LADC/CADC:
Owner and Director of Professional Development and Consulting. Contracted trainer for the Missouri Credentialing Board and consultant with the Opioid Response Network. Having worked in the SUD/MH profession in excess of 37 years, he has had a variety of experiences which have included: counseling, program development, professional development, supervisory roles, administrative roles, recovery housing and supports, working with indigenous tribes, collaborations, and treatment/Veteran’s courts. Presently following his passion to train and assist others in professional development and readiness, supervision, consultation, clinical team building, training staff, and service delivery.
