Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and Applications

Kylee Corken, M.A., BCBA-LBA

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a treatment approach that aims to improve the lives of participating individuals by a meaningful degree. The science of ABA helps us understand how behavior works, what affects behavior, and how learning takes place. ABA uses behavioral principles to teach individuals new, functional skills that can be applied to real-life settings to increase quality of life and independence, while also decreasing challenging behaviors that are harmful or impact learning.

This presentation aims to educate multidisciplinary therapeutic providers, and/or providers that connect children and families with resources in the state of Oklahoma, on the applications of ABA in their own practices, as well as to create partnerships amongst providers to connect through referrals and coordination of care.

Attendees will receive training on how ABA is used to teach new skills, as well as prevent and reduce challenging behaviors from occurring, of which principles can be applied in a variety of settings when working with children, adolescents, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Objectives:

  •  Learn the foundational principals of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and how it is used in treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  •  Learn ABA techniques and teaching procedures for skill acquisition with applications across other therapeutic models in both group and individual therapeutic settings.
  •  Learn ABA techniques in behavior modification procedures with applications across other therapeutic models in both group and individual therapeutic settings.
  •  Learn about the Functions of Behavior.
  •  Learn about Preventative Strategies to prevent challenging behaviors from occurring.
  •  Learn about Reactive Strategies to respond to challenging behaviors when they do occur.
