This workshop will help the clinician understand what makes a "Hero" so special and how they are unique. It takes a special person to work with this population - one who can understand their job stressors, their daily habits, their coping mechanisms, and just what exactly is going on in their heads. Generic everyday therapy doesn't work very well for them. But why? And what can be done instead? How can we help the helpers?

About Lavone Anderson, LPC:
Lavone got into mental health after discovering a friend of hers was involved with the rescue and recovery efforts for the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. He had informed her that he was still having issues dealing with the trauma, nightmares, and flashbacks even 12 years later. He explained that "nobody helps the helpers." Lavone knew then that she discovered her calling. Lavone became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2017 and has been helping Heroes ever since. In addition to seeing individual clients through Choices for Life and Beacon Pointe, Lavone also worked at Oakwood Springs Hospital in the In-Patient Help for Heroes program, and is currently working with veterans and their families at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Red Rock in Oklahoma City.
